For some reason, I can remember watching Mark Henry compete in weightlifting at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta. What I didn't know at the time was that the man who finished a disappointing 14th would go on to have a long career in WWE, fathering a hand and winning the World Heavyweight Championship among other titles.

At the age of 24, Henry was legitimately considered the strongest man in the world, lifting more than anyone in history in five competitive lifts. Obviously the title of 'strongest man in the world' comes with a fair number of qualifiers, but Henry's achievements in lifting are second to none according to those in the know.

Despite his disappointing performance in the 1996 Games, Henry actually became the largest athlete in Olympic history by competing. In fairness, he suffered a severe back injury at the beginning of the competition too, which hampered his performance immensely.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
