10 Wrestlers Who Couldn't Stand Being Hated

4. Bret Hart

Bret did turn heel in 1997, but it was never something he was 100% comfortable with. That's obvious when one relives his 'America sucks' run on WWE Network/Peacock in 2022. The 'Hitman' certainly couldn't fathom the thought of being hated in his home nation - Canada meant too much to him.

So, he agreed to turn rogue in the United States and nowhere else.

That makes him one of the most unique people on this list. Unlike John Cena, Hart dipped a toe into the villain thing after years of being heroic. That was a brave move, one which happened to fit in nicely with the WWF's 'Attitude' change that was happening around the same time.

Looking back though, it's easy to spot some hesitancy written all over Bret's face. His stony expressions gave way to pained ones during his entrances (as fans told him to get the f*ck back to Canada if he didn't like the US), and it's obvious that this wasn't the Bret Hart he wanted to be.
