10 Wrestlers Who DOUBLED DOWN On Legendary Title Reigns
3. Kenny Omega
Kenny Omega's 346 days as AEW World Champion weren't the belt's best 346 days - but they did provide a legendary series of matches.
His early 2021 Match of the Year contender vs. Rey Fenix still stood up when award season rolled around. Against Jungle Boy, Omega turned a bubbling mid-carder into a credible future headliner. In IMPACT Wrestling, Omega's title-for-title conquest against Rich Swann brought the best out of Swann.
The matches weren't for everyone. They've been described as overambitious, pompous, and, depending on which side of Wrestling Twitter you reside, lacking a story. Such is the nature of Kenny Omega's in-ring flair; even if you don't love his matches, you appreciate them for the outside-the-box thinking.
The AEW World Championship was, however, already on the level it needed to be.
It's the promotion's World Tag Team Championships Omega established as worth fighting for.
His and Adam Page's Revolution 2020 defence vs. The Young Bucks is heralded as the greatest tag team match of all time, but there is a myriad of other dexterous matches worthy of discussion. TV matches with SCU, Private Party, and Best Friends kept AEW's doubles division afloat during the arduous pandemic era. Omega and Page's time as AEW World Tag Team Champions was more than just the Revolution match (a lot more), but the match is constantly being discussed for a reason.
