10 Wrestlers Who Escaped Certain Death
8. Ken Shamrock
Long before Ken Shamrock was the 'World's Most Dangerous Man' or even a WWE Superstar, he was still considered one of the tougher individuals in the industry. But it was almost his undoing following an ugly scene with notorious rabble-rousers The Nasty Boys.
As covered extensively in the excellent Titan Screwed by James Dixon and Justin Henry, Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags nearly hurled Shamrock's prone frame from a motel balcony onto concrete as a fatal coda to a hideously ugly 1990 night.
Earlier that evening, Shamrock and Knobbs had been nose-to-nose in a nightclub after the blonde bruiser had repeatedly grabbed Ken's friend's girlfriend's breasts. Ken stepped in, leading to a quick ejection of the Nasty Boys to prevent further escalation.
Shamrock was still incensed by the situation though, and tracked down where the duo were staying that night. Bursting into the room and attacking, medical and police reports suggested that Ken was struck across the back of the head with a phone by Sags after he'd gotten the better of both and laid into Knobbs' face with pounding rights and lefts.
The shot floored Shamrock, but the pair continued their assault. Though authorities intervened to avoid Ken taking a the planned back window plunge, Shamrock still nearly met his maker from the damage. He was left with a broken sternum, concussion and damage to his eye socket, and noted that he nearly died from the cumulative effects during his hospital-bound ambulance ride.
