10 Wrestlers Who Had Their Best Match Against Shawn Michaels
7. Vader (SummerSlam 1996)
It’s a shame how Vader’s WWE career turned out. While he was portrayed as a hulking, leviathan monster in WCW and Japan, it never quite transferred over when he made the move to New York. However, things were looking good for him when he was granted a WWE Championship match against Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam ’96.
This match is particularly notable for the backstage politicking that went on behind it. Shawn infamously refused to drop the belt to Vader, and this match is likely what caused the rest of Vader’s career to be so, well…. boring.
But what a match it was.
Starting off at breakneck speed with Michaels and Vader ferociously throwing right hands, things quickly picked up the pace with a signature crossbody from Michaels on to Vader. The match was full of power spots from Vader and highspots from Michaels, particularly when he literally leaped over the top rope onto Vader, who was prone on the outside.
Unfortunately this would mark the beginning of the end of Vader’s WWF career, but at-least he got his moment in the sun.
