10 Wrestlers Who Had To Take A Break... Only To Return Better Than Ever

3. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns return
WWE

Ever since The Shield split, Roman Reigns was pushed ad nauseam as the lead Superstar and Superhero of WWE. WWE were accused of pushing Reigns to the moon regardless of what fans wanted or thought. It didn’t help he was scripted terribly and was pushed as being this unstoppable force with few weaknesses.

In 2018 Reigns announced he had leukaemia and had to take a four-month hiatus from the company. He thankfully went into remission, garnering a lot of appreciation from fans that he did not have before. He came back to wrestle but his character was similar to the Reigns of old.

It was when Reigns had to take his second major break that he levelled up in a big way and went into a whole new gear. Reigns had to take his second leave of absence just before WrestleMania 36 due to the pandemic and being immunocompromised from his leukaemia. The time away Roman had here was invaluable. He pushed to turn heel for the first time in his singles career and is currently having the best run of anyone in all of wrestling in many years. His alliance with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso and him declaring himself as the Tribal Chief had led to some amazing moments and matches on SmackDown and PPVs.
