Wrestling fans have always questioned WWE's reasoning behind assigning ridiculous gimmicks to certain wrestlers. It was the same with Perry Saturn, as many wondered what he did to deserve to play a gimmick that was in love with a mop. Well, there seems to be a perfectly valid reason behind that since it was a punishment for Saturn going berserk on Mike Bell on the 17 May 2001 episode of WWE Jakked.
It was supposed to be a short classic enhancement talent squash match, but when Mike Bell botched an arm drag, which resulted in Saturn landing on his head, the latter went ballistic in the ring before sending Bell head first to the outside. He then continued the assault by setting him up for an inverted atomic drop but instead threw him with full force onto the steel stairs. He then hung Bell upside down on the turnbuckle and pulled his neck backward from the outside, and he could've done more damage if Terri Runnels didn't calm him down.
Perry Saturn talked about the incident during an interview and owned up to his actions, saying that he screwed up in the heat of the moment and faced heat from Vince McMahon after the match. While there are claims that WWE gave him the Moppy gimmick as punishment for the Mile Bell incident, Saturn revealed he has no idea if it was a punishment but stated that the gimmick went over with the fans.
