10 Wrestlers Who Lost Touch With Humanity
6. Cody Rhodes
The Cody Rhodes heel turn - or at very least fans themselves deciding not to like Cody Rhodes anymore - wasn't as inexplicable as some of his sprawling promos and programmes might have suggested.
Just before he departed AEW, Cody cut a promo on about 12 different wrestlers he wasn't feuding with and had more than a few digs at the fans that had abandoned his cause during the company's three years. It served as a fairly fitting send-off based on the months of scatterbrained television feuds he'd been involved in since around the start of 2021.
Most infamously, he asked for sympathy for the "guy that built the bank". To some, it was the umpteenth confirmation that a heel turn was incoming, but it turned out to be more Cody chaos. Even if he believed he was playing the longest, cleverest game, nobody else was playing along with him. It was that point he missed, and that that's made his AEW exit a fairly managable one for his former employer.
