10 Wrestlers Who Narrowly Missed A WWE WrestleMania Main Event
2. Kurt Angle
While most guys on this list have missed out on the odd WrestleMania main event here or there, Kurt Angle claims the unwanted honour of missing out on multiple headline matches at the event over the course of his seven-year tenure.
First, in 2001, he lost his WWF Championship at the final hurdle when the Rock beat him at No Way Out, thus taking his place in the WrestleMania X-Seven main event against Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Then the following year, despite this time scoring a victory at No Way Out, beating Triple H with the WrestleMania X-8 number one contendership on the line, he then lost a rematch on Raw the next night and saw another title match slip through his fingers.
Even in 2005, you could argue Angle was robbed of a third crack at a WrestleMania main event. Having failed to capture the belt at the Royal Rumble, the No Way Out curse struck again as Angle lost to Cena at the PPV, and in doing so surrendered the chance to face JBL for the belt at WrestleMania 21.
Still, he ended up facing Shawn Michaels at the show, so it wasn’t quite the end of the world.
