2. The Ultimate Warrior

Events: Various WWF house shows in 1996.

What Happened: Jim Ross has said on his 'Grilling JR' podcast before that he wasn't sweet on Vince McMahon's decision to give The Ultimate Warrior another run in 1996. Ross and others in the company thought Warrior would only let the side down, and they were 100% correct.

The wrestler's on/off relationship with the WWF turned sour by summer.

Warrior was heavily promoted for house show cards in July, but he no-showed all of them. In correspondence with McMahon, Warrior justified his absence by saying he was grieving the death of his father. Vince disputed that, pointing out that he had a fractious relationship with his dad and hadn't seen him in 10 years.

Later, Warrior revealed disagreements over merchandise too, and said he was upset with the WWF's bid to sell items behind his back. Moving on, McMahon drafted in Sycho Sid for house shows - that would be it for Warrior in the company until a 2014 comeback shortly before his death.
