10 Wrestlers Who ONLY Played By Their Own Rules
2. Ric Flair
Not only did 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair repeatedly play by his own rules inside of a wrestling ring, but he also did things his own unique way outside of it and this led to him becoming as famous for his in-ring ability as he was for his legendary partying.
Throughout his career, Flair could regularly be found bending the rules and using his various alliances to earn countless titles along the way. His iconic 'styling and profiling' gimmick was also unlike any villain the wrestling world had ever seen and inspired countless characters inside and outside of the business in the years that followed.
Also, Flair was another star who knew exactly what he was worth and he infamously scoffed at WCW President Jim Herd's idea to repackage him as 'Spartacus' in order to 'change with the times', before jumping ship to WWF and eventually winning the company's top belt in 1992.
After retiring in 2008, Flair again decided that he wanted to play the game on his terms and began to wrestle on the independent scene and in TNA, before returning to WWE as an on-screen personality in 2012.
At 70 years-old, Flair was still more than happy to play his part in Triple H and Batista's WrestleMania 35 feud, allowing himself to be dragged around backstage by the returning 'Animal' on the night of his own birthday celebration. It won't have made his doctors happy, but he didn't care.
There's only one 'Nature Boy' and long may he continue to play by his own rules. Wooo!
