10 Wrestlers Who Ran For Public Office
2. Linda McMahon
Linda McMahon may not be a pro wrestler, exactly, but blowing $100 million was enough to earn her a spot on this list.
The wife of Vince McMahon and the longtime CEO of WWE, Linda left the company in 2009 to put all of her time (and money) toward the 2010 U.S. Senate race in Connecticut. Spending $50 million of her own money managed to nab her the Republican nomination, but she flopped in the general election. She got 43 percent of the vote, as compared with the 55 percent received by the winner, Democrat Richard Blumenthal.
Two years later, another Senate seat opened up in Connecticut and McMahon hadn't yet learned her lesson. Once again, she put $50 million from her own pocket into the race, and once again, she got the Republican nomination. This time, when polling showed her behind Democrat Chris Murphy, she did everything she could to change the numbers - including distance herself from the Republican party. That didn't please the McMahons' fellow fat-cats, and it didn't help her - she once again got 43 percent to her opponent's 55.
