10 Wrestlers Who Refused To Drop Titles
9. Sable Refuse To Lose The Women's Championship To Luna Vachon
WWE was known for hiring female superstars with no prior wrestling experience solely based on their looks, and former WWE Women's Champion Sable is a part of that lengthy list.
She made her WWE debut in 1996, and after a brief stint as the on-screen manager for her then-real-life husband Marc Mero, Sable started to gain immense popularity among WWE fans. WWE capitalized on Sable's new-found stardom by introducing her as an in-ring performer in 1998.
However, since she didn't have any prior in-ring experience, WWE tasked veteran Luna Vachon to help Sable learn the ropes. Sable became a top draw for WWE in terms of ratings and merchandise sales, and The Blonde Bombshell eventually went on to capture the WWE Women's Championship at Survivor Series 1998.
Sable didn't defend the title until Royal Rumble 1999, where she defended the title against Luna Vachon in a strap match. The original plan was for Sable to drop the title to Vachon, but the former knew she had the business stats in her favor - and pulled some strings backstage to change to finish and walk out with the win.
