10 Wrestlers Who Refused To Work Together

8. Steve Austin And Billy Gunn

Austin again, once more with a midcard for life performer with floppy blond hair. Maybe Stone Cold had something against working with blondes? Could it be that facing men like Jeff Jarrett and Billy Gun reminded Austin too much of his own tenure as a Hollywood Blonde? It isn’t entirely out of the question (it is entirely out of the question) and does put Austin’s petulance in a new light. Somewhat.

Rikishi (another blond, what is going on?) wasn’t always going to be the man to mow down Austin at the 1999 Survivor Series. Before Triple H paid Fatu to do it for The Rock, Billy Gunn was going to be slapped with the attempted murder charge in the name of pro wrestling creativity, leading to a high profile feud for Mr. Ass against the promotion’s premier ass-kicker.

All good and well in theory, except Austin wasn’t thrilled at the idea of working with someone so many rungs below him on the totem pole. He immediately shot down the idea of Gunn being the one to take him out, an ‘honour’ that eventually found its way to Rikishi. You can insert your own joke about transitioning from Mr. Ass to Rikishi, if you feel such a quip is warranted.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
