10 Wrestlers Who Regretted Coming Out Of Retirement

7. The Ultimate Warrior

Coming out scathed in the aftermath of the 1992 steroid trial, The Ultimate Warrior left WWE and entered semi-retirement until 1996. Upon his return, he went from running wild to something much milder.

Warrior began on a bad start changing a WrestleMania match against Triple H to make himself look better, squashing the up-and-comer who was on an undefeated streak.

He had a disappointing thrown-together feud and match against Goldust and a stunted rivalry with Jerry Lawler. Warrior soon incurred the wrath of Vince McMahon due to his ego and backstage meddling. Though his second run was short, it proved perfect material for professional wrestling’s greatest hatchet job - The Self-Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior.

In a shoot interview (summed up here), he blamed his regrettable return on The Kliq, who he dubbed “scumbags”, and Vince McMahon. Warrior’s predominant reason for returning to WWE was to hawk his personal merchandise. He planned to make money from both wrestling and a 100% share of his merch. When this didn’t work out, accusations were abound of who was screwing who. In Warrior’s eyes, only WWE benefited from this run, with him taking credit for teaching the company how to market their merchandise to the general public.
