10 Wrestlers Who Ruined Gimmick Matches For Everybody Else

The Buried Alive Match is one that’s forever going to be tied to The Undertaker. After all, The Deadman is literally a character who bangs on about graves, caskets, and resting in peace.

While The Phenom has tackled legendary competitors such as Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and Kane in Buried Alive bouts, Survivor Series 2003 saw The Undertaker taking on Vince McMahon in a Buried Alive battle.

This was the Vince character at his egotistical best, as he loud and proudly cheated on his wife Linda, set Brock Lesnar on daughter Stephanie, and decided he had the brass balls to go up against Big Evil.

Granted, ‘Taker dominated the majority of the match, but as soon as McMahon levelled The Undertaker with a shovel shot, the lustre and lure of this gimmick match evaporated. Even worse, Vinny Mac would actually get the win here – this all being done with the assistance of Kane in order to lead to Big Evil being replaced by the classic Deadman when the Death Valley native returned at WrestleMania XX.

The point here is, from the time Vince McMahon took part in - and won! - this most sinister of match types, fans lost all interest in ever seeing a Buried Alive Match again.
