10 Wrestlers Who Should Have Won The WWE Royal Rumble
8. Mr Perfect (1990)
That being said about DiBiase, there’s another candidate who could, and maybe should, have won the 1990 Rumble. In fact, it's almost become a part of wrestling folklore that Mr Perfect was at one point allegedly penciled in to win the at the ’90 event.
The story goes that Perfect had been initially slated to win the match until Hulk Hogan used his backstage influence to engineer a victory for himself. Hogan, by the way, was already WWE Champion at the time, so surely he didn’t need to win the Rumble as well?
Make what you will of those rumours – which have been cited in various pro wrestling books – but they certainly seem to have a sound basis. As well as being a deserved feather in the cap, a Rumble win for Perfect could have set up a ‘Mania match versus Hogan, which would've afforded Perfect a spot in the limelight, whilst also allowing Hogan to work with one of the company’s best in-ring performers.
Another win-win situation but another that was passed up on.
