10 Wrestlers Who Suffered For Being Too Good

9. Gail Kim

When talking about the all-time great female wrestlers, Gail Kim has to be in the conversation.

It's absolutely incredible to realise that Gail Kim was only afforded one 27-day Women's Championship reign during her two spells with WWE. While that first WWE stint at least saw Kim tangling with the likes of Victoria, Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, and Lita, the highly talented grappler's WWE return in 2008 was a complete farce.

By this point, Gail Kim had seen her stock rise by putting on excellent matches in TNA as part of the stellar Knockouts division. As a result, many were expecting Gail to be a star attraction of WWE's female roster following that return to Vince McMahon's sports entertainment juggernaut.

Instead, Kim was put in a position where her in-ring skills were used to make vastly inferior women look better than they ever were. There were some brights spots, such as matches against Mickie James and Beth Phoenix, but the majority of that three-year WWE run found Gail Kim working with painfully awful in-ring talents like Jillian Hall, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, and Maryse.

So disappointing was this run for Gail Kim, it all came to an end up when she went off-script to eliminate herself from a Battle Royal before handing her notice. Thankfully, a return to TNA was on the agenda in 2011 and Gail would get to spend the next several years again showcasing why she was one of the best wrestlers on the planet.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
