10 Wrestlers Who Suffered For Being Too Good

8. William Regal

Whether it was in a WCW or WWE ring, William Regal could always be counted on to deliver a high quality performance. Even more jarring is that Regal managed to do this for so many years while he was battling his own demons away from the ring - which is testament to just how good the Englishman was.

Regal has himself long talked up how one of the main influences on his wrestling career was the classic British comedies of the 1960s and '70s. Channelling that same spirit, Regal was never shy to make fun of himself, and he would forever go out on a limb to make audiences laugh.

Because Regal was so damn entertaining outside of the ring, it could be argued that his in-ring career maybe didn't hit the highs that it should've. On his day, nobody could match William Regal in the squared circle, with him able to work a wide variety of styles and match any opponent hold-for hold.

It's no surprise to see Regal utilised as both a trainer and an on-screen authority role for the NXT brand these days, yet it feels as if his capacity for the comedic and his ability to make any opponent look like a million bucks (a confused, sloppy Goldberg, aside) never quite saw Regal positioned in the upper echelons of the card that his talent warranted.
