10 Wrestlers Who Took The Fall To Make Others Look Good
5. Mercedes Moné
Generally, when a wrestler is injured during a match one of two things happens:
1) The referee throws up the dreaded "X" with their arms, and the match is cancelled immediately.
2) Everyone involved rushes to the prearranged finish, even if the winner is the person injured (think of Stone Cold beating Owen Hart with an understandably sloppy roll-up after the latter broke the former's neck).
Rarely, though, the wrestlers involved take a third way out - calling an audible and having the uninjured wrestler pinning their fallen adversary, even if it flies in the face of the script. That's exactly what happened when Willow Nightingale beat Mercedes Moné at NJPW Resurgence.
Despite Mercedes being booked to win, the former Sasha Banks gracefully allowed the younger talent to pick up the win after Mercedes broke her ankle during the match. Not many wrestlers would have taken that option, especially as the winner of the match was booked to make history as the inaugural NJPW Strong Women's Champion.
Then again, Mercedes is also the same wrestler who agreed to take the pin in the first ever women's match to main event a WWE Pay-Per-View - despite it being held in her home town. Oh, and she dropped the belt to Bianca Belair in the first women's match to main event WrestleMania.
For those keeping count, that's three times Mone has been on the losing side of history. Here's hoping fourth time's the charm!
