There was always a strange disconnect in seeing one of the few men with an argument for being called the greatest wrestler of all time, wearing the Intercontinental Championship on WWE television at the age of fifty-six. Flair won the title from Carlito via submission to the figure four leglock at Unforgiven in September 2005, and retained the IC title for 155 days, against Triple H and Edge, before losing to Shelton Benjamin to begin his second reign with the title. Flair gave the title a little nudge of credibility by holding it, as at the time he was still capable of pulling out the odd bit of brilliance: his defence against Triple H in a fun steel cage match at Taboo Tuesday that November is still a highlight of his later in-ring career.
