10 Wrestlers Who Were Stuck In Midcard Purgatory

10. Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes didn't look like a star when he made his WWE main roster debut back in 2007. The grandson of a plumber had a generic look and a somewhat bland style, and after a decent run as part of The Legacy many assumed Cody would sit near the bottom of the card for the rest of his career.

Post-Legacy however, Cody shone brighter and brighter. The current WCPW Internet Champion took his character and tweaked it beautifully over time, and the sky seemed to be the minimum that Cody could expect. He had the look, the talent, the genes, the lot.

For whatever reason WWE didn't seem to agree, and Cody found himself in the middle of the card until his departure earlier this year. When he teamed with his brother Goldust to dethrone Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins of The Shield he shot to the top of most 'Will Win A World Championship Within A Year' lists. One year later, he was under the facepaint as Stardust.

There is every chance that Cody Rhodes will return to WWE further down the line and finally become a main event star. If not, he will forever be a major missed opportunity.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
