10 Wrestlers Who Won Despite Taking The Finish

7. Vince Russo (WCW Monday Nitro September 25th, 2000)

It's almost too easy to visualise the moment Vince Russo cooked up the idea of becoming WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

The pitch would have to involve ludicrous terms, a f*ck finish and an unsatisfying outcome, but Russo didn't stop to wonder if all of these hurdles might have rendered it a bad idea - he simply ensured he'd be there to jump or be thrown over them.

Amidst a huge brawl between with the Natural Born Thrillers and the Filthy Animals, Russo appeared done and dusted courtesy of a Booker T axe kick. But the Champion didn't count on yet more interference making the key difference. Stopped from leaving by the arrival of ally Bill Goldberg before being physically prohibited by Scott Steiner guarding the door, Booker could only stand and watch as Big Bill speared Russo clean through the cage, instantly making him the company's new steward.

The promotion was eating itself throughout much of 2000, and Russo winning what was once one of the industry's richest prizes was very much the on-screen main course.
