10 Wrestlers Whose Careers Ended Suddenly

10. Joey Mercury

Joey Mercury has had a long and noteworthy career in WWE, but it didn€™t come without its bumps in the road. Mercury is probably best known as a member of the MNM faction -- also consisting of Johnny Nitro and Melina. Together, Nitro and Mercury captured the WWE Tag Team Championship on three occasions. Mercury is also well known for his stint within CM Punk€™s Straight Edge Society. Despite his success in wrestling, Mercury suffered through a long battle with drug and alcohol addiction. In 2007, following an intervention conducted by Vince McMahon, Mercury was released from his contract -- an act which he claims helped him defeat his addiction. In 2010, Mercury was rehired and joined the ranks of Punk€™s SES. However, after only a few months, Mercury underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle. Joey trained at WWE€™s FCW developmental territory in order to help rehabilitate his injury. During this time, he also began to help train WWE€™s future stars and later transitioned into a producer role for the company€™s main roster. While Joey Mercury continues to work for the WWE to this day in a backstage capacity, his in-ring career came to a sudden end following his injury in 2010.
