10 Wrestlers You Didn't Realise Wrestled For WWE In 1996

4. Joey Abs

He was known as the ‘worker’ of the Mean Street Posse, the only one of the group with extensive wrestling experience.

His name was Joey Abs, one of the great wrestling monikers of its time, and that was just about as good as it got. Abs was a member of the fabled OMEGA organisation put together by the Hardy Boyz, if his credentials were in any doubt.

Abs was a frequent jobber on WWE TV in 1996, performing under his real name of Jason Arhndt. Marc Mero, Steve Austin, The British Bulldog and Faarooq all got wins over the future Mr. Abs, although the win/loss record here has little to do with Arhndt’s place in history. Abs was the first man to take a Stone Cold Stunner on WWE TV, something that will never be taken away from the future WWE Hardcore Champion.

It gets better. Jason Arhndt picked up a win over Austin later in the year, albeit in a 2-on-1 handicap match alongside Eddie Jackie. What’s more, the duo won the match after interference from Bulldog.

Arhndt was the man to pick up the pinfall, which may have been the difference between Joey Abs and Eddie Jackie.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
