10 Wrestlers You Totally Forgot Worked For ECW
6. Marty Jannetty
ECW was something of a halfway house in its mid-'90s heyday, and it was all quite fitting; the promotion knew no rules, and was thus perfect place for the naughty mainstream stars that disobeyed them.
Enter Marty "Young Girl, Get Out Of My Mind" Jannetty.
Jannetty travelled a strange path throughout the 1990s, during which time he was in and out and in and out of the WWF, having endured troubles with law and order. He resurfaced in ECW in 1995, and Paul Heyman, in his creative pomp, naturally recognised Jannetty's inherent power as a sympathetic babyface who excelled when fighting with his last gasp. Jannetty challenged unsuccessfully for the ECW World Championship on more than one occasion, thus reinforcing it as a prize worthy of its improbable mainstream flirtation.
The original Party Marty was an astute choice for this challenger's role, and represented very well Heyman's approach when using nomadic Big 2 stars. He didn't propel them into positions at the top of the card, instead refusing short-term temptation in order to safeguard his promotion's DIY aura.
