9. Barry Windham

The 275 pounder from Sweetwater, Texas was one of the many Americans featured in the 1992 G1 for the NWA Heavyweight Championship.

Long considered a sure-fire choice to be the NWA champion throughout the late 1980s, WIndham's jump to the WWE and quick return to WCW had resulted in him occupying a secondary role in the Four Horseman.

After losing to Lex Luger at the Great American Bash '91 in a match to declare a new WCW Champion, Windham slid down the card into a mid-card role, teaming with Dustin Rhodes and feuding with Steve Austin over the Television Championship.

By mid-'92, Barry Windham could hardly be considered a favourite for an NWA title tournament, and New Japan obviously agreed, as he bowed out to Keiji Mutoh in the first round of the tournament

Windham, however, would get the last laugh, defeating Mutoh for the NWA Championship five months later at SuperBrawl III for a solitary, belated run as champion.
