10 Wrestling Alliances You Completely Forgot Happened
1. Bret Hart & Goldberg
Think about the Hitman and Goldberg and you’re most likely imagining an errant mule kick that would spell the end for Hart’s in ring career. Bret Hart has had few kind words to say about Goldberg’s in ring ability in the years that followed, and the usually opinionated Goldberg has chosen his words carefully in response, expressing contrition for the accident.
Aside from that unpleasantness, though, the two also shared the WCW Tag Team Championship at one point. On a December 1999 episode of Thunder, the ad hoc duo defeated the phenomenally stupid Creative Control (WCW’s limp parodies of Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco) to nab the belts.
This was then reversed a week later, because this was latter day WCW when nothing had any significance.
The partnership was forgettable for many reasons - because of the unfortunate bout that would shortly follow, because Bret’s tag team days are better known with other partners, because it was a publicity stunt by an increasingly lazy and desperate booking committee - but at least these two huge stars got to enjoy a nice moment before one of them booted the other in the head.
