With McGuinness now employed as a smarmy commentator on NXT, we are at long last getting the chance to see the Ring of Honor stalwart be a part of WWE - and whilst he has proved a shrewd addition to the announcing team, it also serves as a cruel reminder of what could have been.

It was TNA, and not his current employers, who finally gave the Englishman his shot at the mainstream (well, TNA, anyway), when they brought him in - repackaged as Desmond Wolfe - for an immediate and predictably brilliant feud with Kurt Angle in late 2009.

Two years later, he was forced into an early retirement in his mid-30s - made worse by the fact that we never saw him on the biggest stage, where many of his fellow ROH alumni became mega-stars.
