10 Wrestling Careers We Wish Had Lasted Longer

7. Bret Hart

OK, so Bret Hart is the oldest retiree on this list. Born to a wrestling family, the 'Hitman' was in the ring from the moment he was legally old enough, and enjoyed a twenty year career (the bulk of it at the very top of the card) before fighting his final match aged 42.

It's the abruptness of his exit that leaves a bitter taste, though. Hart suffered a nasty injury during his match with Goldberg at Starrcade 1999, the extent of which rendered him unable to have an extended retirement tour (and final, hair-raising blow-off match) of the kind a wrestler of his profile deserved.

Whilst there's no guarantee that Bret and Vince would have put their issues to one side as early as 2001, there's also a little part of you that wonders what the ultimate WCW acquisition would have done for the Invasion angle.
