There's another fun Steve Lombari-related story to tell this week.

Shortly after Matt Borne (the original Doink The Clown) left the WWF, Vince McMahon called Lombardi and said he wanted him to play the clown on a Calgary house show against Bret Hart. Lombardi, a loyal WWF lieutenant, was then stunned to hear Vince lay out his travel itinerary the day of the match.

McMahon wanted his employee to catch a flight to Stamford, learn how to apply the clown's paint job, haul himself to Cleveland so he could pick up the Doink costume from Borne's wife, get back on a plane to Calgary and finally work the match with Bret. This mind-numbing schedule had to completed in the morning and afternoon.

Lombardi did what he was told, and the journey was only made possible because of the three-hour time difference between Cleveland and Calgary. After all that, Steve had to crudely apply the makeup himself and pretend to be Doink.

All in a day's work.
