One week before the "What?" catchphrase first aired on television, Christian was privy to Steve Austin's fun-loving nature. After working out at a gym he always used in Chicago, Christian grabbed his bag and realised that Austin had left him a long, ponderous voicemail.

There was no signal in the gym 'cause it was underground, so Christian had left his phone in his locker. That was no use to a supremely-bored 'Stone Cold'. He fancied a chat with his friend, and he decided to prank the Canadian by saying things like, "I'm passing a tree. What? I said I'm passing a tree. What?" over and over.

Christian, forgivably, was confused.

He told Wrestling Travel that Austin laughed when he brought the voicemail up later. Boredom of driving between towns had crept up on him, and he was just looking for a way to pass the time. That one-off lame joke became a massive hit for Austin and sold a ton of merchandise.
