10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Feb 19)

10. Axl Rotten Died Of An Accidental Overdose

On February 4, 2016, it was reported that the world of professional wrestling had lost another member. Former ECW performer Axl Rotten passed away, and was sadly found inside a MacDonalds bathroom by police. During his wrestling career, Rotten had never really been a major player, but he was part of the misfit crew assembled by Paul Heyman during the mid-1990's. As revealed in the Baltimore Sun, Rotten's demise was brought about due to a heroin overdose. The final few years of his life had been difficult, and the man even required the need of a wheelchair due to various spinal problems he had been experiencing. The newspaper reported that the overdose was deemed as accidental following an autopsy report. Tributes came in from those who worked with Axl in the original Extreme Championship Wrestling, including one from Shane Douglas. An overdose had been suspected by some, but hadn't been confirmed until this week. It's sad to think that a former wrestler's life ended in such a fashion, but Douglas commented that the physical nature of Rotten's matches had been brutal.
