10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Jan 3)

1. Kane Was Originally Called 'Inferno'

In a refreshing twist on his most recent media interviews, Kane talked nothing but pro wrestling on Steve Austin's pod this past week. That was welcome, because there's only so many times one can hear about politics on a wrestling show before it begins to grate.

Thankfully, Kane came armed with some worthwhile stories.

The most memorable was his admission that WWF creative planned to call him 'Inferno'. That's right, Kane was a secondary choice behind this (much more) fiery moniker. Further, his call-up to the main roster only happened so quickly due to Vader's arrest in Kuwait during an April 1997 tour; had that not happened, Kane doesn't think he'd have been readied before 1998 at the earliest.

The WWF needed a new opponent for 'Taker towards the end of the year, and 'Inferno' was deemed perfect. Somewhere in that sudden mix of costume creations and gimmick tweaks, the name was changed to Kane and history was made.
