There are few in pro wrestling who can match the level of psychology Jake Roberts had during his prime.

As one of the most brilliant minds in the business, Roberts used his smarts to become one of the WWF's biggest stars in an era when physique was king. He could work with anybody, even lumbering gimmicks like The Undertaker (who, in 1992, hadn't yet developed a ring style known for enjoyable matches).

When the pair worked together at WrestleMania VIII, Roberts knew he'd be losing. In an interview with Sportskeeda, Jake revealed how he came up with a fool proof masterplan to ensure that neither he nor his DDT finisher would be affected by the defeat. All he needed was some time.

After dropping The Undertaker with his finishing move, Roberts deliberately stalled for as long as he could so the DDT wouldn't look lame when 'Taker kicked out. That's so, so simple, and yet so, so clever. By leaving a long gap between bump and pin, Roberts protected his trademark without hurting his opponent's credibility.
