A year ago, Jinder Mahal was just breaking up his team with Rusev and looked set to be a jobber on Raw. Now, he can look back on a run as WWE Champion. The guy has reinvented himself from enhancement talent to credible worker; whether you enjoyed his title reign or not, Mahal's hard work cannot be denied.

WWE's decision to shift Jinder from Raw to SmackDown last April was a success. The same could be said for putting The Singh Brothers with him, but that might not have been the case, had Mahal not made his dislike of WWE's original plans to make Samir and Sunil living, breathing stereotypes public.

On the Sam Roberts podcast, Mahal revealed that SmackDown's writers wanted The Singhs to wear traditional Indian dress. Jinder vetoed this by claiming it'd dilute his own gimmick (he was already wearing a turban) and turn the brothers into a joke. He took it upon himself to pick out smart shirt/trouser combinations that worked with the colour palette of his in-ring attire.
