6. JBL Almost Got Shot Filming Vignettes

JBL Mexican Border

On the 8 April 2004 episode of SmackDown, JBL was handed Kurt Angle's 'Great American Award'. It was a quite brilliant heat-seeking move that fit Angle's heel GM role, and it helped Layfield get over as a snobbish villain himself. Before being handed the trophy, JBL was shown at the "Mexican-American border" repelling "illegal immigrants".

That wouldn't have aired had he been shot.

On 'Something To Wrestle With', Bruce Prichard remembered meeting JBL at the ranch they were using for filming. It belonged to Layfield's friend, but he wasn't home so they waited a few hours in the dark for him to come back. He didn't, so they decided they should film some stuff anyway. That's when a truck pulled up, and the man behind the wheel pulled a shotgun on the WWE crew.

It turns out they had the wrong house. The driver didn't recognise them and thought they were burgling his ranch. Thankfully, the owner knew JBL's father and the whole thing was smoothed over. Just as well, otherwise Layfield, Prichard and staff were in serious trouble.
