10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Nov 20)

5. Jim Cornette Told TNA Awesome Kong Was Their Biggest Draw

Credit where credit is due, before WWE had grand plans for a 'female revolution', TNA beat them to it. For many years, the TNA Knockouts division was far superior to the WWE Divas league. A lot of this was down to the fact that management in TNA gave their women ample time to put together meaningful matches, rather than wheeling them out as eye candy. The most memorable feud during those glory years was between Gail Kim and Awesome Kong in 2007. Kim hadn't really been featured heavily by WWE during her first run there, and the same thing would happen during her second. Kong didn't typify what WWE liked from their female performers, but she was suitably awesome in TNA. Somewhere along the line, the decision was made to stop putting such emphasis on the Knockouts. Jim Cornette, who was working for the promotion at the time, told other officials he felt this was a mistake. During one meeting, the legendary manager even stated that Awesome Kong was the biggest draw TNA had. According to Cornette, TNA had something WWE yearned for, a female performer that was over with the entire audience. The man's words weren't taken seriously, and Kong was de-emphasised.
