10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Nov 29)

1. Why Bill Watts Wanted Shawn Michaels Gone

Shawn Michaels was in the news following a nightclub kicking in 1995 that, as the WWF explained, happened when a group of Marines savagely beat the star up. That's not quite what happened. The truth is that one army man set upon Michaels when the wrestler made a pass at his girlfriend, and HBK was left battered and bruised.

Bill Watts was positively apoplectic.

Jim Ross said on his 'Grilling JR' pod that Watts (who was involved in the company as a creative figurehead at the time, albeit briefly) was so incensed that he could see only one outcome: Shawn Michaels, top star or not, should be exiled from the company for daring to expose that not every pro wrestler is a hard man.

JR did also point out that Watts had helped Shawn break into the business and was very fond of him as a worker. Still, he hated to think that some mark outside the biz had managed to physically overpower someone inside it. That, to 'Cowboy' Bill, was unforgivable from Michaels.
