SummerSlam 2013 is memorable for a clean Daniel Bryan win over John Cena (before he was screwed by Triple H and a Randy Orton MITB cash-in). Also on the card, CM Punk brawled with Brock Lesnar as part of a double header main event format. Both matches were excellent, but Vince McMahon hated them.

Kevin Eck told Wade Keller all about this on a recent podcast.

Eck claims McMahon asked for his writing staff to explain their booking afterwards. He wasn't fond of the babyface vs. babyface style of the Cena vs. Bryan match, and he didn't think Punk was a realistic opponent for Lesnar either. To the boss, fans felt the same, and he viewed the entire structure of the show as a failure.

Creative defended their writing by saying people liked Punk enough to offset the size difference between he and Brock, and they believed in Daniel Bryan's story. That wasn't good enough for McMahon, apparently. He looked at SummerSlam '13 as a dud.
