You read that right. Impassioned wordsmith Mauro Ranallo once pulled on some boots and tights to wrestle a handful of matches for indy fed All Star Wrestling in his native Canada. The NXT announcer recalled working Coconut Willie way back in the good old days of 1988 on social media this week.

On 28 November that year (four days after WWE presented the first ever Survivor Series card, for the record), Mauro braved the rigours of the wrestling ring and went to work. The match is now available in full online, and it's quite the watch to see NXT's main man play to the crowd.

This, we're sure you'll agree, is a fantastic slice of history.

Ranallo briefly filled the heel manager role in All Star, but it's amazing to learn he also stepped between the ropes for a match or two. It's seriously doubtful he'll ever do the same for WWE, so don't go getting your hopes up. Mauro vs. Gargano isn't incoming.
