10. Vince McMahon Wants You To Forget Wrestlemania Numbers
One of the more interesting news items to break out this week, reports suggest Vince McMahon and WWE no longer want to number Wrestlemania events going forward, feeling they make the shows feel old-hat. Quite clearly, fans disagree, airing their disagreements with the Chairman's words by the truckload, with most citing that the numbers only add weight and prestige to the longest running Pay-Per-View in pro wrestling history. Notice the little 'play' icon in the Wrestlemania 31 logo? That's what WWE want going forward, with another example being the star sign on the recently-revealed Wrestlemania 32 banner, chosen to reflect the location the event is taking place in, Texas. Freshening things up is commendable, but this is something nobody had a problem with before, or even really mentioned, and seems like an odd decision - why spend 30 years hyping up the history of Wrestlemania, and WWE, only to dis-regard it all in one fell swoop. Surely the history and heritage of 'Mania is part of what makes it so special and noteworthy? It seems likely that wrestling fans will continue to number the Wrestlemania events themselves, as it seems ludicrous to imagine anybody not saying which event they're talking about when recalling a memorable match or moment.
