10 Wrestling Finishers That Could Legit Kill You

8. Powerbomb

The powerbomb has become a classic move. There was a time when it was the most destructive move in the business, the domain of big men only, a violent fall usually experienced from high above an imposing six-foot man. Fast forward to the modern-day and powerbombs are ten-a-penny, for want of a better word.

That doesn't make them any less destructive. There is a simplicity to the move that never gets old. Pick a dude up and smash them into the floor as hard as possible. The freefall versions of the move are particularly dangerous, manoeuvres that leave a poor sod flying helplessly through the air, unable to stop their momentum or save their head and neck from hitting the canvas. It is very, very dangerous.

Modern fans might be desensitized when it comes to the powerbomb, but don't underestimate the violence of simplicity. The Last Ride version of the move is particularly savage. Not content with dropping a guy on his head from his own lofty shoulders, Undertaker would usually drag the poor bugger even further into the air, increasing the fall and decreasing the odds of survival. If performed in the real world, of course.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
