10 Wrestling Gimmick Matches You Won't See Again

3. Monster Truck Sumo Match

Halloween Havoc 1995 is chiefly remembered for its celebrated clustershambles of an ending, wherein Hulk Hogan and the Giant fought for the World title somewhere in the middle of multiple run ins, face and heels turns and the appearance of a giant mummy who was actually a yeti. But that was just a regular, albeit insanely-booked match.

What preceded it was, conceptually at least, even madder.

Quite what the Monster Truck Sumo Match was supposed to achieve, no one was clear, but Hogan and Giant had one anyway before the main event. The two drove monster trucks at each other (no they didn't, pro drivers did) to push each other out of a circle marked on the roof of Detroit's Joe Louis Arena. The 'match' consisted of the two trucks revving nose to nose as if engaged in a particularly aggressive snog, while cameras cut to footage of the two wrestlers grunting and snarling with supposed exertion. The fact the Monster Truck match had nothing to do with wrestling, or anything else that night, plus it was probably really expensive, means it isn't going to be coming back.

That, and Monster Trucks aren't cool any more.
