10 Wrestling Gimmicks That Got Out Of Control

Wrestling gimmicks, by their very nature, are over the top.

That's often true from the off, but it's also true that even the most vibrant characters can spin out of control to the point of excess or end up being a noose around a wrestler's neck. When this happens, somebody needs to stop, look around them and say, 'Alright, it's time to reel this in a bit'. Of course, the always-on nature of the business means that rarely happens.

No, promotions and workers are more likely to push and push and push, desperately trying to rekindle lost glories or squeeze just one last bit of magic from their creations. That's usually when things go wrong and gimmicks end up being parodies more than natural progressions of a winning idea.

There's a saturation point, even in a biz as wacky as pro wrestling. Fans can only be expected to stomach so much silliness before they're the ones asking to rein things in, not the folks responsible.

Every single gimmick listed here took things too far. By the time they realised, it was probably too late...
