10 Wrestling Gimmicks That Got Out Of Control
3. 'Loose Cannon' Brian Pillman
Brian Pillman brought a gun to a fist fight.
This writer will always maintain that his handgun angle had no place on WWF television. Yes, it's still talked about today, and sure, it did get fans talking at the time because of how wild it was, but it was never going to be topped. Think of it this way: Pillman vs. Steve Austin in any kind of wrestling match wasn't going to beat Bri trying to shoot his old tag partner.
When things escalate to the point of gun violence, they've generally gone as far as they can go. In movies, nobody says, 'Man, you tried to shoot me - now let's have a dust up with rules!'. All bets are off as soon as bullets fly, but not in the world of pro wrestling.
This gun-related nonsense was Pillman's 'Loose Cannon' gimmick going too far. It was hard for the writers to pen a more memorable twin chapter, and it made most other cartoonish fare on Raw look boring, unrealistic and second-rate.
