10 Wrestling Matches Inspired By The Original WarGames

7. Xtreme Pro Wrestling: Genocide War Games

Pornography producer and wrestling promotion owner Rob Black adapted the WarGames concept for his XPW promotion in 2002. Dubbed the Genocide War Games, the match saw two teams with five members each compete in the bout. While the rules were the same as the original version envisioned by Dusty Rhodes decades prior, XPW’s version saw the inclusion of countless weapons inside the two rings.

Furthermore, only one ring’s cage featured a roof as the other was left open so as to feature dramatic dives and falls into the adjacent ring. Unfortunately, XPW’s cage was a poorly constructed mess and many of the match’s planned spots didn’t happen. Still, there was a wealth of unsightly violence during the wild skirmish thanks to the countless weapons available inside the ring.

Though, the match did satiate the appetite of bloodthirsty fans who were left without a hardcore promotion following ECW’s demise only one year earlier, it was largely an embarrassing affair consisting of needless violence and numerous fading hardcore legends.
