10 Wrestling Matches Much Better Than Their Reputations

7. Drew McIntyre Vs. Oney Lorcan (NXT - 12 April 2017)

This bout greatly exceeds its reputation for one simple fact: it doesn't have one. For most fans, this was but a five-minute match buried on a random episode of NXT television. It was Drew McIntyre's reintroduction, and the Scotsman overcame a game opponent in quick fashion... nothing worth paying attention to or remembering, right?

Wrong.

Take the Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg WrestleMania 33 format, place it in a more intimate setting, and perfect it. The result is McIntyre vs. Lorcan: a furious, ballistic sprint between a returning Goliath and and over-matched but ravenous underdog, both of whom worked their hides off.

The pace was relentless. Neither man had any goal other than unleashing furious violence on the other, so they didn't screw around with exploratory holds and lock-ups. Instead, they beat the sh*t out of each other. That maniac, Oney, took all manner of worrisome bumps, throwing his body at the towering Scot without thought for his own safety, and Drew? His offence was at its most impactful, as he worked with a level of stiffness that isn't sustainable beyond the odd match here and there, but creates pure, brutal magic when used in the right places.
