10 Wrestling Matches That Were NOTHING Like You Expected

1. The Undertaker Vs. John Cena - WWE WrestleMania 34

Nobody expected a classic. The very fact that WWE did not promise a match as such meant that many didn't even expect a match of any kind, but an angle of sorts leading to next year's Showcase of the Immortals, at which time 'Taker might be in even half-decent condition.

Even fewer expected the Undertaker to wrestle a shorter match against a tipsy (!) Cena than even Jimmy Snuka managed decades earlier.

Cena entered the ring under the promise of the match he whined about for a few weeks, only to be told that 'Taker wasn't in the building. Dejected, he walked up the ramp. And then the lights went out. The crowd erupted. It didn't matter that the recent memories 'Taker left them with were so underwhelming. His star power was undead.

And then - this really was a masterpiece in manipulation - we heard the strum of Elias' guitar, and the most entertaining midcard heel act in recent memory even drew the desired reaction. He also drew a reaction from the goaded Cena, who returned to the ring and pasted him. Cena's music hit, but that still wasn't it: finally, 'Taker made his return to the stage that made him a legend, and all the preceding great sports entertainment drama meant that WWE had, in effect, created anticipation not for an innings but the home run.

"Taker in a glorified cameo hit it - Cena missed the big boot, but it hardly mattered - creating a 'Mania moment as indelible as it was bizarre.
