Most fans remember SummerSlam 2014 for Brock Lesnar's main event obliteration of John Cena, but there was arguably something even more significant on the undercard - Roman Reigns's first major one-on-one pay-per-view match.

After the breakup of The Shield in June, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose began feuding with one another while Reigns was seemingly bumped straight into the main event. For a couple of months that meant that he was involved in multiple-man matches for the WWE Title, but he soon began feuding with The Authority - and specifically the unit's golden boy, Randy Orton. That led to a singles match between the two at SummerSlam.

Reigns had proven himself a dynamic presence in tag team matches, but could he handle a long singles bout - and against Randy Orton, who's decidedly hit or miss in such situations? It turned out there was nothing to worry about, as the two men delivered a bout that, while not quite at "classic" level, was a great piece of wrestling action.

Reigns kicked out of an RKO and ultimately won with the Spear, but more importantly, he showed just how talented he was. It's been a rough three years in terms of his usage, but he's certainly always game for a great contest.
